John Somerville plus sergeants Marcus Mathis and Abby Fraser brought us up-to-date on the Chandler Police Department Explorer program. They were introduced by Jim Patmos. The program was arranged by Eli Baughman.

The Explorer program is associated with the Boy Scouts and is designed for young men and women aged 14-20. There are more than 60 in the post and they have performed more than 3,400 hours of community service in the past year through finger printing of kids, safety fairs and the Ostrich Festival where they help find lost children.

The Chandler post started in 1985 and expanded through word-of-mouth. John told us how his grandfather helped get him involved with the Explorers, which turned into a police career for him.
